2022. Earth itself has become nothing more than a solar field, but on that field exist two trees that conspire to rescue the planet and themselves, by appealing to two unassuming but noble humans -- in their dreams.

Ruby Kidd: Resident of Truville, Vermont who rescues Cian from making a big mistake, and winds up being involved in a crime.

Officer Travis Brody: Nephew of Deacon, an officer in President Graves administartion, heading a task force that goes after environmentalists to shut them up.
Lorelei and Aurore: Cian's wife and child
Gordon Kidd: Ruby's brother
President Burke: elected in 2008, allows RFID chips everywhere
Dr. Adelina Rios: coins the phrase solar field; disappears.
Dr. Berko Albasini: African professor, head of the Free Tree Society
